Holiday pay for workers on Sept. 25 — Labor
The Department of Labor and Employment on Thursday reminded all private sector employers to pay extra to employees who will work on Sept. 25, which is a regular holiday in celebration of Eid’l Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice of the Muslims.
Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said that the President declared that day a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid’l Adha.
“The declaration of a regular holiday was meant to foster goodwill between the Filipino Muslims and the Filipino Christians, as the feast is a celebration of Muslims in honoring the willingness of Ibrahim to obey Allah and in commemorating the end of Hajj, or the Pilgrimage to Mecca,” Baldoz said.
“Proper observance of the pay rules on a regular holiday strengthens decent work and encourages productivity. Voluntary compliance of companies with this labor standard is good business practice,” she said.
The pay rule for regular holiday follows as; If the employee did not work; he or she shall be paid 100 percent of his or her salary for that day while for work done during the regular holiday, the employees shall be paid 200 percent of his/her regular salary for that day for the first eight hours; and for work done in excess of eight hours (overtime work), he/she shall be paid an additional 30 percent of his/her hourly rate on said day.
Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs said that there will be no consular services in all the DFA main and regional offices onSept 25.
The DFA will be closed and no application issuance and other related passport and consular services will be entertained.
All those with appointments scheduled on that day shall be accommodated from Sept. 21 to 24 , and from Sept. 28 to Oct. 2, 2015.
