High-tech quiz competition finalists named

Eight grade school and eight high school students from all over the Philippines will be competing for the championship in the 2013 National Finals of the Diwa Pasiklaban sa Paaralan on March 09, 2013 at the Mind Museum in Global City, Taguig. The Diwa Pasiklaban sa Paaralan is a high-tech inter-school quiz competition for grade school and high school. Pasiklaban features questions in Science, Math, Language, Literature, and General Information. It travels around the country on board a custom-built van equipped with laptops, which are used as playing consoles; a server that is the “brain” of the competition; a mobile sound system; and LCD projectors. The Pasiklaban caravan has been to several locations around the country and has done 56 local competitions- participated in by 537 schools nationwide. Winners of the local competition were divided into clusters: Central Luzon, North Luzon, Southern Luzon, Bicol/Western Visayas, Northern/Central and Eastern Visayas, Davao/Socsargen and Northern Mindanao, ARMM/ Western Mindanao, and the National Capital Region. The finalists for the grade school category are Maria Angelica Pahati from Jocelyn V. Cacas Montessori School Marilao, Bulacan, Petter Xymone Sapalo from Methodist Christian School, Tuguegarao City, Jannah Kasheca Badulis from Lumban Academy Nittany School Inc Lumban, Laguna, Dominic Nathaniel Anthony Redaniel from Children’s Integrated School of Alta Tierra, Iloilo City, Bea Eleanor Orias from University of San Carlos- North Campus, Lahug Cebu City, Jasper Mendoza from Banga SDA Elementary School, South Cotabato, Jewel Zaira Lobrino from Enfant Cheri Study Centre, Surigao City and Alexandra Clea Lagamon from Integrated Montessori Center, Taguig City. The high school category finalists are Klarissa Santos from Tarlac Montessori School, Tarlac City, Pamela Denise Arao from University of St. Louis- Tuguegarao City, Jennalyn Tan from St. Michael’s College Binan Laguna, Mel Maegan Nieva from Legazpi Hope Christian School, Legazpi City, Jacinto Velez from PAREF Springdale School Inc, Cebu City, Hazel Lenn Ruiz from Notre Dame of Dadiangas University- IBED Lagao City, Benjamin Ensomo III from Surigao Education Center, Surigao City and Farley Sean Napiri from Pateros Catholic College, Pateros, Metro Manila. Diwa Learning Systems Inc. vice president for corporate and marketing communications Armel Espiritu said that the 16 national finalists have gone through a rigorous elimination process, starting from the local competitions up to the online semifinals. “We hope that through Pasiklaban we help improve the state of education in the country by cultivating a culture of healthy competition among students and nurturing excellence in Philippine schools,” Espiritu said. Aside from serving as an avenue for intellectual competition among students, Diwa Pasiklaban sa Paaralan also shows how information and communications technology (ICT) can help in academic instruction by enhancing the classroom experience of students. Pasiklaban sa Paaralan is a project of Diwa Learning Systems Inc., a print and digital educational resources provider in the Philippines. Diwa provides educational materials such as textbooks, supplementary magazines and Genyo, an e-Learning management program for Philippine schools.
