MPD: 26 die in overnight anti-drug ops

The anti-drug operations of the Manila Police District (MPD) across the city on Wednesday night has resulted in the death of twenty six (26) drug suspects.

The figure comes from MPD Spokesperson Superintendent Erwin Margarejo.

"Initial lang po itong 26 na nasa record ko (this is just the initial number in my record)," he said in an interview.

Margarejo said most of the deaths occurred after the drug suspects allegedly engaged the police in shootouts.

MPD launched a total of 18 operations overnight.

Most of the fatalities were in Binondo, Manila.

Only the MPD Stations 1 and 7 in Tondo did not conduct operations.

"Maybe these stations were performing other surveillance activities," Margarejo said.

Margarejo added, the number of fatalities poses a difficult challenge to the investigations being done by the MPD's Homicide Section and Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO).
