DA confirms presence of bird flu virus in Nueva Ecija

Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Manny Pinol has confirmed the presence of bird flu virus in two areas in Nueva Ecija.

In an interview, he said, "I have just officially confirmed the presence of bird flu virus in San Isidro and Jaen, Nueva Ecija."

Pinol reported, "this is a result of a series of laboratory tests" based on the samples given by poultry owners and farmers from the province themselves.

More tests are being done in a laboratory in Australia.

Nueva Ecija Provincial Administrator Alejandro Abesamis said bird flu virus was detected in a poultry farm in Barangay San Roque.

He said they have talked with the poultry owner.

The poultry owner has agreed to voluntarily slaughter the chickens in his farm.
