Budget usec axed amid graft raps
PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte admitted firing an undersecretary of the Department of Budget and Management amid allegations of corruption.
“I wanted to slap him. I wanted to kick him. I fired him for corruption,” Duterte said without naming the official in a speech during a Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry event in Manila on Thursday.
Duterte said he would not publicize the name of the official because he did “not want to shame the family” of the official.
Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno could not be reached for comment.
In the same speech, Duterte said he also fired three employees from his office.
“There were three employees in my office, influence-peddling. This one was tinkering with the money; I told you, stop [it],” he said.
