Sanman aims to prove something

GENERAL Santos City—Two World Boxing Federation Asia titles will be up for grabs in Sanman Promotions’ boxing event dubbed “Brawl at the Mall: Revenge or Revalidation.”

In a highly anticipated rematch, Sanman protégé Daryl Basadre will try to avenge a controversial loss to Cebu’s Kenny Demecillo, who is fighting under the Omega Boxing Gym banner.

This will be their  second meeting in the last three months as both fighters recently faced off June 7 of this year when they fought for the WBA Oceania Bantamweight title.

Demecillo, with a record of 9-3-1 with 6 knockouts, guaranteed to win his second title this weekend in spectacular fashion.

“It will be by knockout. I will prove to all that my first win was no fluke,” said Demecillo.

Basadre for his part promises to win in dominating fashion as he has been preparing for this fight and plans to do all he can to punish Demecillo as he felt he could have won their initial outing had the referee allowed him to continue.

“I felt I let down my fellow Generals during our first bout and I want to win it for them so bad. I worked hard in training. My team is formulating our plan for this upcoming rematch.” said the soft-spoken Basadre after their press conference.

Meantime, a mix of regional champions and hot young prospects from the Sanman Boxing Gym’s pool of fighters are to be showcased on the said event.

The supporting main bouts will also feature a WBF title bout between undefeated Rinmar Metuda against Jason Tinampay in a 10-round battle for the vacant Asia-Pacific featherweight crown while WBC Asia Champ John Vincent Moralde will stake his belt versus Jerry Castroverde.

WBC Asia Flyweight and IBO Inter-continental Flyweight Champion Raymond Tabugon will be one of the top features when he squares off against Renante Suacasa in an 8 round superflyweight bout.

Tabugon last fought March of this year in Cotabato, Philippines besting Juan Purisima via 10 round UD.

He won the IBO Inter-Continental title last year knocking down South Africa’s Luzuko Siyo in the 12th en route to a 12-round unanimous decision win.

Undefeated superbantamweight Marquil Salvania will be tested by former Philippine champion Philip Parcon, while flashy “Magic” Mike Plania will trade leathers opposite Marjun Tabamo in another pair of 8-rounders.

Rounding up the rest of the undercards will be Engelbert Moralde vs Jonathan Francisco of Cebu, Reymart Gaballo vs Frejun Dela Cruz of Cebu and Jenny Boy Buca vs Michael Padayag in a 6 round curtain raiser.
